The castle was built by the Pomeroy family in the 15th century, with only the castle walls remaining their successors the Seymour family built a mansion within the original walls, the construction of the structure was never finished and remains in ruins up to this day. This is actually a mansion within a castle. This castle is worth the trip coming from any of the nearby holiday cottages in the area and especially while you are enjoying your Brixham holidays.



Compton Castle



This castle is actually a fortified Manor but is in pristine condition. After travelling through a path of trees and greenery you will reach a clearing and then this picturesque medieval building emerges with all its splendour. This Castle reminds you of a fairy tale because it is tucked away in South Devon. The Gilberts are the relatives of the famous Sir Walter Raleigh. The castle was used as the location for the movie "Sense and Sensibility" which proves how grand of a castle it truly is.
